If you are interested in requesting sponsorship for your own event, please read our terms below so that you understand how we expect this to work, and then contact us by email to discuss possible arrangements.

Sponsorship we may offer
We are usually willing to send discount vouchers for our online courses. These will be sent by email as a PDF in advance of the event so that you can print them out and hand a physical copy to people.
We could also offer some attendance free-of-charge for some number of our regular sessions either at the Vanguard Centre in Glasgow or at Liverpool HEMA.
We could potentially also sponsor some of the equipment related to running the tournament (such as medals, flags, etc), although we are more likely to do this for an AHA-affiliated club than for an independent club, and we are also more likely to agree to this if there is some other purchase involved (such as for prizes).
We will typically not offer books or pieces of equipment as prizes, although if you contact us about buying some items to give as prizes, we may be happy to offer you a discount.
We are not willing to provide sponsorship when there is an expectation that we must provide however many hundreds of pounds or dollars worth of prizes to gain access to even just the first tier or level of sponsorship recognition, or whatever system the organisers want to use to extract as much from companies as possible. Such requests will be rejected out of hand.
What we expect in return
We would request that you publicise our sponsorship of the event in all of the following ways.
You should put our name (Academy of Historical Arts), website link (www.academyofhistoricalarts.co.uk) and logo on the event website and any social media involved with the event.
You should also download and print a poster to place beside any other sponsorship posters or banners, or on a table where prizes are displayed:
- AHA poster, A4, black and white, portrait
- about our online shop, updated August 2021
- AHA poster, A4, black and white, portrait
- about our online courses, updated June 2023
Additionally, both the website link and the logo should be present on any other media about the event where sponsors are listed, including any posters and flyers, or any t-shirts that come with sponsor logos.
Event participants (and potential participants) must be aware of the fact that we are sponsoring the event. Therefore, the event organisers should announce our sponsorship during the course of the event, and also beforehand via email and/or social media.
When sponsored prizes are awarded or otherwise distributed, our organisation’s name should be mentioned, so that people are aware that we are sponsoring these particular items for the event.
Sample press release
The following piece of text may be used for press releases, announcements in person or on social media, or for describing our organisation on the event website:
The Academy of Historical Arts was founded in 2010. Over the years, we have become one of the largest HEMA organisations in the UK, representing many clubs across all four parts of the country, and serving several hundred registered members every year. Several of our instructors have become well-known in the UK and further abroad for their fencing, teaching, and scholarly skills.
Our goal is to provide a professional service for what is still largely an amateur sport, so that club leaders can have someone to turn to for advice, equipment, and ready-made solutions to common problems. We want to help clubs offer HEMA activities in a safe and responsible fashion, supported by effective policies and processes, and with admin that is relatively easy and hassle-free.
We run an online shop on our website at www.academyofhistoricalarts.co.uk where we sell books and useful training equipment and where we also offer online courses and other helpful information.
