At Sandbec Swordsmen our focuses are: swordsmanship, discussion, knowledge and good company.
We are a group of enthusiasts from all walks of life, who like to come together on a Sunday and practise HEMA. Our backgrounds vary from re-enactors, to martial artists to zero experience at all.
Our current focus is German longsword from the treatise written by Liechtenauer, Ringeck, Meyer as well as whatever codices or snippets we come across and workshop. We have also practised British military sabre, I:33 sword and buckler, and messer according to Codex Wallerstein and other practitioners.
Whilst we aren’t professional coaches or instructors, we have several years experience between us, all of which we are happy to share. Our sessions tend to begin with a warm-up, drill including new and old techniques, followed by plenty of open discussion and sparring.
We meet every Sunday either from 2-4 or 4-6 at the Yoxall Hall Haslington.
New members can come free for the first month after which we charge £10 per month which goes towards: Hall Rental, Club Equipment, Insurance and Membership to the AHA. We are only a small club; so whilst we have equipment to share, we are still working on building up a communal armoury!
So if you’re manic about Meyer, cuckoo for Kal, doo-lally for Danzig, or just like swords, it’d be great to have you around.
