The School of Historical Combat is a Birmingham based Historical European Martial Arts club (also known as historical fencing) focused mainly on the German traditions of the 15th and 16th centuries. Within this we cover longsword, dagger, staff/spear, sword and buckler, and unarmed combat, but also cover other traditions such as Italian disciplines and WW2 Combatives.
We are a friendly and supportive group, keen to help individuals reach their goals with HEMA, be it competitive, technical skill, health, or making new friends. We encourage our members to engage with other HEMA groups and practitioners, through running and attending sparing days, and annual community events such as May Melee and Fight Camp.
Whilst grounded in the German Tradition, we are open to and actively seek to cover as much HEMA as possible, so if there is enough interest in a weapon we will look to cover it in a module.
