Sparring Gloves are the standard gloves used by many of the top competitors in the current tournament scene for historical fencing, particularly for longsword and sword and buckler. They have a very good record of safety and are probably the most protective gloves available to historical fencers at the moment.
Out the box, Sparring Gloves are not very flexible, so you do need to break them in. Plan to spend a couple of weeks at the very least for the breaking in period and don’t worry if they are uncomfortable for a while! You may also want to acquire a slim under-glove such as those produced for cyclists, to maintain a decent grip of your sword while protecting your hand, fingers and wrist from rubbing against the sturdy material of the Sparring Gloves.
