Focus on correct technique
It is much better to do a few repetitions correctly than it is to do many repetitions badly.
It is also much better to do a few repetitions correctly, slowly, and carefully, than it is to do the same number of repetitions quickly and not quite so correctly.
You should focus on doing things as correctly as possible, and everything will fall into place quite naturally after that. If you focus on speed and strength and explosiveness instead, without making sure that your form is correct, then you are probably setting yourself up for injury.
Choosing an appropriate number of repetitions
You don’t need to do hundreds of repetitions or to spend hours doing exercise to feel the benefits. I often do about 10 repetitions of each exercise, spending about 5-10 minutes going through a variety of different exercises, and that’s usually enough for me to feel more mobile and comfortable again after a day of sitting at the computer. It doesn’t need to be any longer or more demanding than that.
In fact, I often take 90 seconds to work with the clubs while I am boiling the kettle to have some more coffee. A short break with the clubs can make the shoulders feel so much better!
Of course, you can do a workout that is intended to be a bit more demanding. It is quite possible to spend half an hour working out with clubs – but this is maybe not such a good goal at the beginning while you are getting used to things. Take it slowly, maybe just do 10 good quality repetitions of each exercise, and leave it at that.
As you gain skill and experience with using the clubs, you might increase the number of repetitions and the number of different exercises in each workout, but this will come with time and practice.
