North Wales HEMA Academy was founded in 2022 in order to fill the void that was left when the last North Wales club closed in 2018.
In this club we study the treatise written by fencing masters of yore. These masters wrote their instructions for fighting with the various weapons of their day in order to teach the next generations of fencers. However, as weapons changed over time these treatises became obsolete (we’re looking at you, guns!) and practitioners of these arts died out. Luckily for us these documents have survived the centuries by being kept in various repositories of knowledge throughout the world. Many of these books have been studied and translated into modern forms of communication. This has allowed various groups around the world to resurrect and practice these old systems of fighting. We are one such group.
Our main area of study is the 15th/16th century German longsword. Spear, Dussack and Sabre are also practiced here.
