White Lion HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) is a club based in Northampton that study and train in the martial art traditions of the Medieval and early Renaissance fencing masters. Our primary areas of focus are the longsword of the 15th Century Germanic tradition, sword and buckler, pollaxe and spear. As the club becomes more established, it is hoped that we may also add Polish sabre into our roster.
We use manuals to study historical fencing techniques and then practice them in a safe and controlled fashion although our approach is to also have fun whilst doing so! A typical evening at training would include a short warm-up, interpretation of techniques and putting them into practice, ending the evening with either some free-play or further discussion and practice. Weapons used will be appropriate to the level of experience and protective equipment.
As a club, we welcome anyone no matter what your background, as long as you are 18 or over. Interested? Come along to one of our regular training sessions to find out more.
